In a world captivated by the charisma of celebrities, where their every move is magnified and revered, a dissonance emerges—a dissonance that threatens the very fabric of our planet's well-being.
Once upon a time, Greta Thunberg said, “Our house is on fire. I am here to say, "Our house is on fire.” This quote really stood out to me because this implies that the world is in danger. It's in danger because the world is neglecting its responsibilities and ignoring its concerns.
While I was scrolling down to find more quotes like this, I encountered in social media about Kylie Jenner flaunting pictures of her with private jets. The pictures looked cool, then I got a notification about Taylor Swift, Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, and Travis Scott who are also having a private jet. These are a few celebrities I grew up knowing and hearing good about them. They are my influencers for a good cause, but now seeing them causing such huge damage to the environment disheartened me.
Virat Kohli also recently posted about him traveling in a private jet. Several netizens were not happy with him for flying private jet and mentioned the impacts it can have on the environment. They commented, "I love him in the game, but just saying, next Diwali, let's not burst crackers. But fly a private air charter." This disappoints us because we are the die heart fans and an army of such fan based celebrities and they do things that lead us to suffer in the future.
Private jets are really bad for the environment. They create a lot of pollution, especially when
you compare it to each person that travels on them. Celebrities like using private jets a lot,
even for very short trips, instead of choosing ways to travel that are kinder to the Earth. According to the Yard PR team, the data reveals that the celebs have emitted an average of 3376.64 tonnes of CO2 emissions in just their private jet usage in 2022 so far.
I am writing this because my voice matters. I'm connected to this world and impacted by others. I can question what's wrong. I’m worried about the future, we must fix things for our survival and that of our planet. Writing and talking about the environmental impact of celebrities' private jet use is important now because we are facing a global climate crisis that demands urgent action. With the rise of climate awareness and activism, discussing the role
of influential figures in exacerbating the issue becomes crucial. By addressing this topic, we encourage greater accountability and promote a shift towards more sustainable choices, which can have a significant impact in tackling the climate crisis.
We can't leave this issue like this because celebrities hold sway in shaping opinions, making their eco-conscious travel vital. For example, consider Leonardo DiCaprio, who takes eco-
friendly yachts instead of private jets. Governments too matter because they're part of this problem too. In France's air travel tax pushes for greener alternatives. Imposing higher taxes
on private jet fuel, like Mexico does, could deter excessive emissions. Hollywood sets trends—Oscar organizers' plant-based menu choice reflects eco-awareness. Collaboratively, these actions send powerful messages. When Emma Watson used a sustainable dress for the Met Gala, she highlighted eco-fashion. Celebrities like Mark Ruffalo using electric cars inspire change. Thus, celebrity influence, governmental policies, and industry trends together forge a path to a sustainable future.
To conclude, celebrities hold a responsibility in our climate crisis. Holding them accountable is our responsibility. Through aligning their influence with policies and industry trends, we pave a path to a sustainable future for all. The time for action is now. Since each of our voices are matter then lets raise them for good cause to fight the battle and save our environment.
